Ghosts of Mars

This is another great adaptation of a John Carpenter script. Taking a nod from the idea of Doom, the terraforming of Mars is what this all centers around. Typical Carpenter sets, graphics, and general cheesiness seems to accompany this classic chiller idea. We experience the story through flashbacks of the head Sgt. (Natasha Henstridge, Species) as the Matriarchal tribunal of Mars interviews her.
Through the events, it seems archaeologists uncovered some sort of anciante time bomb, which releases ancient spirit warriors which possess hist bodies, and then self mutilate and thirst for blood. Only problem is you can only kill the hosts, and not the spirits. So it’s the perfect weapon for a world that has gone extinct.
The head spirit warrior bears a strange resemblance to the head vampire from John Carpenter’s Vampires. In similar performance to Assault on Precinct 13, The goodguys run a foul of some criminials (lead by Ice Cube, Boys in the Hood) who then join forces in light of the on coming menace.
It may be cheesy and unrealistic, and pretty foolishly funny, but something about John Carpenter’s worlds are just fascinatingly fun. This also stars Jason Statham (The One) as Sgt. Jericho. It’s a lot of violence, and catharsis, as we strive to overcome the demonic plague. Much of the violence and action takes on similar patterns as From Dusk Till Dawn.
