28 Days Later

In a new look at Zombie Horror, this Danny Boyle flick is a great watch. Unfortunately I realize that I will never be scared by a movie. It’s just not possible. But this movie is slightly disturbing. After Animal Rights activists release a deadly plague and the whole of England is evacuated, Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakes in his hospital bed to find the streets deserted, his parents dead, and two other survivors whom he must run with in order to survive.
One of them dies and then they discover 2 other survivors who have heard a strange radio signal from northern England, which offers hope, salvation and the protection of soldiers. The four of them set out for the signals location and have quite an adventure on the road.
They arrive and another dies and then they discover the twisted agenda of the soldiers. The 9 male survivors desired the companionship of women and now refuse to release Jim’s female teammates. The final sequence is unforgettable, and devastating, and the two different endings offered are rather confusing, because the on e is hopeful and cool, while the other is to put it best, mildly disturbing.
A true work of art, this is a fine zombie flick, and a fine performance by Cillian, who is slated to play the Scarecrow in Batman 5. Boyle does it again and lands a 2.
