This
is a tragic and beautiful story, framed by Director Clint Eastwood (Magnum
Force) in which he also stars as a gnarled
and surly old boxing trainer, who is very accomplished, but finds himself
unable to take promotional risks which other managers can, and so he is
constantly losing his clients to big money Hollywood managers. In the meantime
he attempts to reconcile his estranged daughter, and
Morgan
Freeman (Bruce Almighty) plays his
partner, a drifter who he allows to manage the Gym, as well as a sleep at the
gym. Freeman also narrates the story. One day a young girl named Maggie comes
into the gym and starts working out.
Before
long, she’s the best female boxer in the world, and has become like another
daughter to the manager. But tragedy strikes and she becomes paralyzed from the
neck down. From there, her tragedy in life is really drawn out, her interacting
with her family, and trying to kill herself. It’s a tragic and beautiful story
of glory tasted, fleeting. Sometimes, you catch a break, you gotta ride it all
the way. I probably almost cried in this 2 of a movie.
