Robert
Deniro (Analyze This) plays Jack Walsh,
a street smart Ex-cop and bounty hunter who reclaims bail jumpers. He is down
on his luck when he gets the biggest job he’s ever had, to reclaim Richard ‘the
Duke’ Maraduke, an accountant who embezzled 15 million dollars from the Mob,
gave it away to charity and then got arrested, and jumped bail. A white collar
criminal, should be a midnight run (Bounty terminology for an easy score).
Through
a series of events, the two are on about 7 or different forms of transportation and it takes a whole lot
of scheming for Jack to get around the Mobsters and the Feds. He also takes
time to reunite with his estranged wife and daughter. He and Richard eventually
bond on the trip and share some of their inner person.
The
charisma and chemistry between Jack and Richard is hard to believe, and doesn’t
really sell well. Deniro is excellent, as always, but, he just doesn’t go the
extra mile, and his attitude and character still seem inauthentic to the
situation.
The
movie is a good laugh and has some fun ideas in it, but overall, I’d have to
give this movie a 1, and say that there are far funnier buddy comedies, and
some things that just didn’t work in this movie that work in other movies. The
Mob Boss is played by Dennis Farina (Get Shorty) and he really sells it, I mean, he’s the best performance in the
flick.
